1930s Style Accessories

The requirement of this project was to create a flat lay using women's fashion accessories or stationary. Flat lay photography has been very popular on Instagram over the last few years and a particularly popular concept has been the photographing of fashionable handbag contents. I thought it would be interesting to create a flat lay display featuring what might be the contents of lady's handbag in the 1930s. I included an image of Ginger Rogers to suggest to the viewer this was my intention.

Vintage Haberdashery

For this display I chose to merchandise a collection of vintage haberdashery items. The main feature of this display is the  contrasting materials and textures. I have used a piece of 1940s cotton seer-sucker dress making fabric depicting Spanish motifs and roses. This overlaps a piece of 1950s upholstery fabric featuring classic '50s diamond design and flower cart image. I have also included an assortment of vintage items including buttons and pinking shears. All other items are contemporary but blend in sufficiently with the older pieces.

Patons Wool

For this flatlay display I have used knitting and crochet related products. I have incorporated a Patons crochet pattern book with coloured wool required  for this pattern. For the backdrop I have used a crocheted blanket  and also added a small blue crocheted square as an example. To add interest to the display I have included some crochet hooks and knitting needles as well as a sample of knitting in the top right hand corner.

Paris Correspondence

This flatlay display features items a person may receive from a friend visiting Paris. Starting with a coffee table book on Paris I added postcards and letters as well as two small soap boxes which were designed to resemble parcels.   At the top of the display I added two Eiffel Tower keyrings which are typical items bought as souvenirs for friends.
